JGHV Testing

Registered Kennels
Breed Certification
The JGHV testing program is a performance based testing system with regulations established designed to demonstrate and improve upon inherited qualities while determining the success of past and future breeding programs. The testing program of Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika adheres to all DLV and JGHV Test Regulations. To enter a dog in one of these tests the owner must be a member of the JGHV and/or an associated group such as Gruppe Nordamerika. The JGHV is the umbrella organization in Germany for all hunting dog clubs. The JGHV provides the test regulations, authorizes the judges, and maintains the test records for member breed clubs. Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika will soon be recognized as a full member club of the JGHV. Other breed clubs in North America that are members of the JGHV include the VDD-GNA, JGV-USA, the NADKC, the Vereinigter CanAm Deutsch Kurzhaar Klub and the VDD Group Canada.

The successful completion of JGHV performance tests is required to identify the dog's natural abilities and suitability to hunt. The Natural Ability Test (VJP) is conducted in the spring for the DL whelped prior to October 1st of the previous year. The VJP measures the inherited natural ability of the puppy when it is essentially untrained. At this point in puppy development, the dog should have been exposed to and demonstrated the ability to track and point furred game and search and point for feathered game. The puppy test is designed to evaluate a DL’s inherited abilities in search, tracking, nose, pointing and cooperation.

The Advanced Natural Ability Test (HZP) is conducted in fall of the same calendar year as the VJP. Called the Fall Breed Test, it is for the 75% trained dog and evaluates inherited qualities in addition to retrieving tasks. Desire and obedience are also evaluated. Essentially a retrieving reliability test, it also indirectly measures trainability.

It is most desirable that the DL successfully complete the Schorlemer HZP, aka SP, as the demonstration of its early breeding suitability; as well as the JGHV Association Utility Test (VGP), the Retrieve Reliablity Test on Natural Wound Track (Vbr), the JGHV Association Blood Tracking Test (VSwP), the Retrieve Reliability Test (Btr); Natural Blood Tracking (,,:'') or (:) repectively, and the performance award Wild Boar ("LzS") as demonstrations of the dog's ability to withstand great stress while hunting.

The Utility Test (VGP) is a comprehensive test, evaluating a finished DL in 26 categories and 18 different hunting situations. A German Versatile Stud Dog Book (DGStB) registration number is issued when a dog has successfully completed a JGHV Association Utility Test (VGP), with a predicate of either Prize I, II, or III.

IVGP (or INT.VGP) = International Association Utility Test

A.H. = Armbruster-Halt-Award

All certified JGHV judges have successfully trained and handled a dog through all tests and have served as an apprentice judge at a minimum of two times for each test.

FCI (FederationCynologique Internationale)
The Fédération Cynologique Internationale is the World Canine Organization. The FCI was created in 1911 with the aim to promote and protect cynology and purebred dogs by any means it considers necessary. The founding nations of the FCI are Germany, Austria, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. It includes 84 members and contract partners (one member per country) that each issue their own pedigrees and train their own judges. The FCI makes sure that the pedigrees and judges are mutually recognized by all the FCI members. The FCI recognizes 339 breeds, each of them the "property" of a specific country. The "owner" country writes the standard of the breed (description of the ideal type of the breed), in co-operation with the Standards and Scientific Commission of the FCI, and the translation and updating are carried out by the FCI. The breed standards are updated and translated into French, English, Spanish and German.
