Apply for Kennel Name Registration (One Time Only)

Prior to breeding your first litter, apply for your kennel name by completing the international kennel name registration form. This requires you to identify three potential kennel names. Sign and email the form to the Breed Warden who will submit it to the DLV Vice Chairman. Once approved, your kennel name will be protected and used only for your litters. It is recommended to complete this at least one month before your first breeding.

Consult with the DL-GNA Breed Warden

DLV Breeding Regulations require a consultation with the Breed Warden prior to breeding to discuss possible stud dog choices and review relevant regulations. Be prepared to describe your dog’s strengths and weaknesses and what you are looking to produce in a litter. The Breed Warden will prepare a stud dog selection form that identifies the candidate stud dogs and documents approval of your breeding plans.

Bring this form to the stud dog owner on the day of the breeding and have them fill out the bottom section. Both the breeder and the stud dog owner must sign the form and return it to the Breed Warden via email.

Submit Litter Registration Form

Within the first week after the puppies are whelped, fill out the litter registration form with each puppy’s name and color. Be sure to list all the male puppies first, in alphabetical order, followed by the females. Leave the registration number blank. Unless you already know which puppy is going to which home, leave the owner info blank and resubmit the completed form later.

Email the registration form, a scan of the mother’s Ahnentafel, and the stud dog selection form to the Breed Warden. This package will be submitted to Germany to process your registration numbers and Ahnentafels; timely submission is critical to allow for processing and mailing time.

Mail the mother’s Ahnentafel to the Breed Warden so the litter can be officially recorded

Complete Puppy Ahnentafels and Microchips

When the Ahnentafel package arrives, you must verify the information is correct, then sign and date (dd.mm.yyyy) the front of each Ahnentafel on the line that says Datum/Unterschrift des Züchters. Write in the owner’s name and address in the blank space next to Eigentümer.

Each microchip package has two barcode stickers. One must be placed in the corresponding space on the microchip number form. The other must go on the front of the appropriate Ahnentafel where it says Chipnummer. Take extra care to ensure the correct barcodes are paired with each puppy.

Arrange Litter Inspection

A qualified person must come to inspect your litter and tattoo/microchip the puppies. This can be an inspection agent from DL-GNA, another JGHV club, or your local veterinarian. Make arrangements to have the litter inspected between 6-8 weeks of age. Prepare the microchip form and litter inspection form to be ready for completion at the appointment.

During the appointment, the agent will tattoo each puppy in the right ear and/or insert the microchip. The physical attributes of each puppy will be inspected and noted on the litter inspection form. The completed and signed microchip form and litter inspection form must be emailed to the Breed Warden.

Pay Litter Registration Fees

Applicable litter registration fees must be paid via the DL-GNA web store before the puppies leave for new homes. There is a one-time kennel registration fee for your first litter and a per-puppy registration fee to help cover the costs associated with processing and maintaining the registration data.

Resubmit Litter Registration Form with Contact Information

Once homes have been identified for all of the puppies, resubmit the litter registration form with the names and addresses of the new owners. This must be submitted to the Breed Warden within four months of the whelping date.
